If the traveller in a plane wants to offer a Sunnah prayer, then he does not have to face the Qiblah. However, when praying an obligatory prayer, it is essential to face the Qiblah and to bow and prostrate if one is able to.

A traveller may shorten his prayer so long as he is not staying in the place to which he has gone for four or more days, whether he travels for work, medical treatment, a vacation or any other reason.

Whoever travels for eighty kilometers or more may wipe over his socks for three days and two nights, join and shorten prayers, and not fast during Ramadan.

A traveller who joins two prayers at the time of the earlier one does not need to repeat the later prayer upon returning home, even if he reaches before the end of the time for the later prayer . Scholars state that since the prayer was valid at the time of performance, it remains valid even if the excuse (travel) ceases later.
