Hijrah (emigration) for the sake of Allah means moving from the land of shirk to the land of Islam as Muslims moved from Makkah to Madinah.

If a person says to you, “Happy New Year”, then you can say, “May Allah make it a good and blessed year for you.” But you should not initiate such a greeting.

The best fasting after Ramadan is fasting in al-Muharram. So, it is encouraged to fast a lot in the month of al-Muharram, not to fast the whole month.

There is nothing wrong with hunting in the sacred months; rather the prohibition on hunting is connected to two things: 1- Ihram for Hajj or `Umrah; 2- Hunting within the limits of the Sanctuary, which means Makkah and Madinah.

The one who says that the age of Islam started with the Hijrah is referring to the calendar and the people agreed upon creating a system so that people could know the dates of events and define the times of contracts, the dates of visits by delegations, and the like. As for the beginning of Islam itself and people's awareness of it, we do not need to point out that this took place before that time.

There is nothing wrong with getting married or proposing marriage in al-Muharram, which is the beginning of the lunar year. That is neither makruh or haram.

The month of Allah, al-Muharram, is a great and blessed month. It is the first month of the Hijri year and is one of the sacred months.

Having the custom of not eating meat during al-Muharram comes under the heading of innovation that is not permissible as a means of drawing closer to Allah.

• -The Du`a for a new month reported from the Companions is: “O Allah, make this month for us a month of security, faith, safety and Islam, of protection from the Shaytan, and of attaining the good pleasure of the Most Gracious.”
• -Though one narration is inauthentic, a corroborating Hadith with a sound chain supports it. Scholars agree that it is good for Muslims to recite this Du`a when a new month begins.
