22-01-2002

Question 13946

I'm converting to Islam from Christianity, my question is I have two children, boy age 14 and girl 11 and I've been a widow for nine years now; I know that I have to say the Shahada is this also required by my children?

Answer

Praise be to Allah.

Saying the Shahaadah is an essential condition of entering Islam, but whoever is born to two Muslim parents does not have to utter the Shahaadatayn because he is judged to be a Muslim, unless he does something that nullifies Islam. But whoever is born to two non-Muslim parents must utter these words, like his parents.
