Organizing communal iftaars to encourage people to fast

What do you think of encouraging ordinary people to observe naafil fasts by organizing communal iftaars?

Praise be to Allaah.

I think that there is nothing wrong with it, but it is better not to do this, because the Sahaabah (may Allaah be pleased with them) did not do such a thing. If people can be encouraged to observe naafilah fasts through words, then this is sufficient and there is no need to do so through deeds.
