Comment on the fatwa about the work of the sports analyst

I read on the website a fatwa which says that it is not permissible to work as a sports analyst. Why did you say that he is wasting his life in analysing and learning the history of sports clubs? What is the basis for the prohibition on that, if he adheres to the commands of his religion? Is working as a physical education teacher also haraam?.

Moreover it is essential to explain that the previous fatwa about working as a sports analyst being haraam was based on two important basic principles:

The correct understanding of the specific aims of sharee’ah, because protecting one's life and time from being wasted is one of the most important of these aims, to such an extent that people will not move on on the Day of Resurrection until each of them is asked about his life twice: once about his life as a whole, in general, and again about the most important stage of his life, which is the stage of youth.

This was narrated by al-Tirmidhi in al-Sunan (2417) and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi.

Understanding the nature of the sports analyst’s job, as we find that he pays too much attention to all kinds of sports which are based on materialism and promiscuity, where ‘awrahs are uncovered and haraam things are disclosed, and women whose bodies are uncovered become the focus of interest for fans, analysts and referees, in addition to the painful reality lived by Muslim youth, who are losing their identity and mission, then the sports analyst comes and serves as a tool to distract the ummah from its mission by means of materialistic activities.

This is what we wanted to explain, and we ask Allaah to guide us and you on the right path.

As for working as a physical education teacher, that is permissible, because strengthening the body and making it more fit is permissible, and is in fact essential, as has been explained in the answer to question number 106910.
